It's Final
Submitted by Linda Odum on July 7, 2008 - 10:22. Concord | Life's challengesWell, the hard part is over. As of June 2nd, I'm officially divorced. From now on my name will be Linda Thompson-Odum. I had to keep the Odum because that is the name I'm known by for my writing. It is the name editors look for, and students sign up for my writing classes because of that name. Maybe at some point I will be able to drop it, but I'll keep it for now.
As far as divorces go, mine was pretty easy. My ex and I agreed early on about the settlement, so we only had to go to court one time. The entire proceeding took maybe 15 minutes. Hum, 15 minutes to end a 14 year relationship. Seems a bit sad, doesn't it?
Farmer's Markets?
Submitted by Daniel Hynds on June 17, 2008 - 19:37. Concord | Concord and aroundWhen I used to live in Derry I'd hit up the Farmer's Market off of Elm Street in Manchester once a week. I am sure there are some great ones in the Concord area, but I haven't found any.
Half a Year
Submitted by Linda Odum on May 18, 2008 - 09:57. Concord | Life's challengesIt is hard for me to believe that I've been living on my own for almost 6 months. Half a year!
When I first moved out in December, I was so busy adjusting to my new life that I never really looked back at the old one. Then spring came, and I began to miss my Hillsboro house with the gardens I had worked so hard to establish through the past 10 years. A little internal calendar went off, telling me that my crocus, daffodils, bleeding hearts, and peonies were waking up. It is also the time of year when the neighborhood comes out of hibernation and everyone would start to congregate outside, most of the time on my front lawn. I spent a couple of sad weeks thinking about what I was missing.

Just walk
Submitted by Daniel Hynds on April 22, 2008 - 10:33. Concord | Concord and aroundGas prices are through the roof, the great weather is here finally. Sadly its the perfect combination of sorts.
My fiancee and I find ourselves walking not only around downtown Concord, but there and back from our home. It's only a couple miles each way, and exercise is never a bad thing. We pick out one place we want to go to specifically, we walk to it and enjoy the weather, and journey back home.
Living for One
Submitted by Linda Odum on April 21, 2008 - 10:14. Concord | Life's challengesWow, what a crazy few months it has been, but I guess that is to be expected when you make a major life change. Even though I was the one who initiated the change, going from being married to being single again after 10 years requires some adjustments. Sometimes it has been an adventure of meeting new people and trying new things. Other times it gets pretty lonely. I guess that is par for the course as I move forward with life.

A Potpourri of Foolishness; A Waste of Time
Submitted by Bill Bunker on February 17, 2008 - 12:19. Concord | Concord and aroundThe politicos in Washington are in full ‘pander mode’ and those in Concord are being led by whackos on the extreme Left. Then, our enlightened politicians have placed baseball on trial; that’s right, baseball, America’s pastime is being examined under a microscope in a venue that pales in comparison to a Hollywood production.
To State Rep. Jessie Osborne RE: "Only Answer:Tax Reform"......NO THANKS!!
Submitted by Bill Bunker on January 26, 2008 - 17:02. Concord | PoliticsThere is no doubt that we need to put the education funding issue to rest once and for all but the legislation as explained by Jessie Osborne, Monitor MY TURN column, January 26, “Only Answer: Tax Reform” was way off of the mark. It is the solution that would be expected from a Democratic representative and no one should be surprised that the legislature will resort to a broad based solution during this session.
