...but I do not know what the book is about because it was not recommended by myself. We need to look to Judy for that answer as it is her comment. Judy, you there??

Greetings Terry,

I have not read the book above so I was just wondering, is Tail Gunner Joe a hero now? What is this book about? Thanks.

You hit it again. Thank you for this intelligent, well thought out post.

The Rhetorical question is, How can we as Americans demand the propaganda BS be turned off? Wouldn't you love to see truth in reporting, for once?

Oh, I forgot, there is no media bias.

Interesting your reference to Senator Joe McCarthy.

On my nightstand now: (Recommended reading..)

Addendum

My S.O. came home from work the same day I wrote this post and told me how he had been teased about his lunch box (he's had it forever and it shows). He put on a pouty face and explained that he told these mean coworkers that he saw no reason to stop using it since it still did it's job, even though the grim is buried so deep one would need to soak it in bleach for a few weeks. I told him he had to read my post since I had said this very thing in it (he rarely reads what I write here).

He did have to correct me on a couple of points, so in all fairness, I will pass along his corrections. He has only had his alarm clock for about 10 years (that would make it younger than all our children), although the one he was replacing 10 years ago was older than any of our children now. Also, it was I who bought the plastic cups at Sam's Club (at his suggestion) since it's actually me who has the card saying it's okay for me to shop there. He would have bought paper cups he says. I pointed out that the wax on paper cups is just as eco-unfriendly, but he wasn't listening to me anymore; Two and a Half Men were debating the vitures of maleness on the television and this was far more important.

And my goodness, Scott, you would think I'd have made an enitre new dog house for my puppy with all these nails I've been hitting lately.

You have hit the nail on the head!

Are we becoming a society that knows the politically correct things to say but when it comes to actions that's for other folks. Personal pet peeves, politicians that ask us to conserve and then fly to their next conference in their private jet, celebrities that excoriate our wasteful behavior while engaging in sport shopping and the acquisition of useless things.

Sometimes it seems that only us regular Joes have the obligation to save the planet. I like Terri's idea, this is all about common sense. Yankee ingenuity, using things until they no longer work rather than replacing things that have only lost their cosmetic appeal.

Regardless of your political persuasion we are all charged with being good stewards of our planet. That means being conservative when we use the earth's bounty. It means applying common sense in our purchases and in what we... not schools... teach our children about being responsible adults.

Cross Generational Learning Never Ends..

Ryan,

Great Blog! For a young man I'm an inspired and refreshed by your life insight and lessons learned, and where they will take you. What you will become, you are now becoming. This never ends, and changes with each season of our lives.

I remember being 18-19 and thinking I was so darn smart. My father said to me, "Judy, what is so important to you now probably won't even mean anything in a few years." I floored him when I was 24 and reminded him of that conversation, and told him he was right!

We're all learning lessons from people we meet every day, people who left small ripples on our lives, those we will never forget. I've been somewhat floored this year to realize a person I first met 30 years ago, and only spent a very short amount of time with, has taught me much, and still is. I am in awe of his example and who he has become. A solid foundation, a community leader. The real beauty, is he doesn't even know it.

Actually, as I looked back at my unassuming and most generous German teacher Frau Crocker, who drove me around to colleges to check them out in my senior year - I look back at so many friends, teachers, collegues, many people who were in my life for a short time yet they had a profound effect on my ilfe and it's direction.

Any CHS class of 81er's on the blog? Where is Frau Crocker now? Is she still with us? I'd like to thank her. She took extra time with me, just an average, partially misguided youth.

Ahh.. and to tie this in to Terri's Beauty and Ripples blogs, which I've shamefully been unable to respond too due to lack of time this week: I'm reminded of a special and most favorite writeup that's been around a while..

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a
need you have expressed.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you
with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or
spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are.
They are there for the reason you need them to be.

Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient
time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.

Sometimes they die. Sometimes they just walk away.

Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire
fulfilled, their work is done.

The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has
come to share, grow or learn.

They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it, it is real. But only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons, things you must build upon
in order to have a solid emotional foundation.

Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.

It is
said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

Thank you for being a part of my life, whether for a reason, a
season or a lifetime. (Unknown)

-------------------------------------------

I'll finish by saying beauty, love, lessons and learning are everywhere - every day. As I get older, I really enjoy the surprise of remembering those little lessons and realizing how much impact they have on who we all are.

Life is just a big circle, and I always enjoy the pleasant surprise of having another chance, coming full circle, ending up right back where I started, and finding myself enormously pleased to be there.

"Pain never makes me cry, but happiness does
It's so strange to watch your life walk by
Wishing it was
Wishing it was more like a fantasy
Every day surprises me
Wishing it was.."

Santana - Supernatural

NH PARKS AUDIT

I expect and demand that our EXECUTIVE COUNCIL take action with the management of parks for their insufficient and embarrassment of the way they ran parks. The legislators have put forth policy and guideline that state agencies are to follow. It is plain to see that they were insubordinate and thought they could ignore the protection that the legislators put into place. I can see why the Director of parks left the State before this audit came out. The audit talks about how management failed in doing their job and I believe that the Deputy Director is as much to blame. Gail Wolek is just as guilty. I am told that most of Parks staff have no confidence in her. I call for EXECUTIVE COUNCIL to take action against Ms. Wolek before she destroy our parks. We need new management in place not the same ones who refused to follow state guidelines.

The Big D (and its not Dallas nor Defense)

Linda -

I have been reading your recent blog posts on your divorce, and I must commend you on your strength and diligence during this difficult time.

I too have quite recently gone through this life-changing event, and I have realized that by investing my time into other positive endeavours, it has made it a lot easier to make that "We-to-I" transition. I found that by focusing my efforts into both personal and professional development, I am able to improve my own life (and my stock in life) while starting to re-learn how to live by myself ... not to mention to start to remove the co-dependent part of my lifestyle that I had been used to.

I praise you again for your vigor, and wish the best of luck to you.

As Red said, "You get busy livin', or get busy dyin'."

Divorce

My divorce happened about 15 years ago. In my particular case, I was in the midst of caring for a toddler and infant. I also had to go through intensive counseling to overcome my feelings of depression, anger and low self-esteem which had led to such a disastrous marriage to begin with. So the 10 years or so that it took me to come through reborn and ready to try again are probably not a good indicator of the norm. However, I think we all go at our own pace. I think it all depends on the marriage, the people involved and the circumstances of the divorce. It sounds to me like you are well on your way and before you know it you will one day suddenly realize you haven't even thought about "that life" in a long time...too busy with "this life".

Hey Judy

Hey Judy,

Nothing stays the same forever, especially with employment. I wrote this blog, not for approval (although I appreciate all of the positive comments) but I wrote it as a matter of fact and life and reality.

30 years ago when I graduated from college, there were not that many opportunities to work in NH. Today, it is the same situation. Although it has improved a bit, it is still pretty stark when it comes to opportunities for newer college grads being able to stay in NH and grow professionally.

I know the person or persons who wrote that letter and brought up the "succession of jobs" as other things that they wrote would not have been known to strangers. It was a personal attack, not unexpected. In the end, the experience I have gained from this so called "succession" of jobs is worth far more than working in one place doing the same thing for an entire worklife.

In this election one side is calling for "change" and I agree that change is good and change of even scenery in a career can be a positive.

One thing is for sure, Judy....hard work keeps you thinking and acting young....I doubt I will ever stop working.

Thanks for your positive support!
