Class Act

When I saw the score of the Mascenic girls basketball game from last Friday night, I was both shocked and disgusted.

I have been watching sports my entire life and a lot of high school in the past few years.

When the score of 90-10 loss to Fall Mountain showed up on the NHIAA website, it was a little sad.

This program has been going through a difficult time the last three years, to say the least, and for them to lose the season opener by 80-points is just uncalled for.

So with powerhouse Conant next up on the schedule, many around the state may have thought it would be much worse.

Yet Coach Nick Hill and his players showed the utmost respect for not just the sport, but for their opponent as well, who just also happens to be the school's "rival."

The Orioles won 36-13, a wide margin? Yes, but not even close to what it could have been. Sure Conant could have run it up, won by 50, 60 or who knows maybe they could have topped the 80-point margin of victory, but they didn't.

Kudos to the entire team for their actions on Tuesday night and lets just hope Hill and the Orioles can show the Wildcats what happens when they play an experienced and talented, title contending team tomorrow night.
