Canterbury Fireworks - what a show!
Just got back from Canterbury's fireworks display. Wow! I've been to shows across the country (including Washington DC on the green on July 4th), and this was one of the best I've ever seen. Why? Because it was so close, you could touch it.
My wife asked, since the weather was clear, and it was almost 9pm, if we wanted to try and see the display. A quick drive into the center of town, find a place to park, and we arrive in time to find a space on the field...
Held on the Canterbury Elementary School field, with the public at one end, the fireworks were right over our heads, occasional flaming bits raining into the trees around us. (Safety is important, but this was pure thrilling fun!)
I was at last year's less-than spectacular show in Concord, and I hope this years' Concord fireworks were better, with the corporate sponsorships paying for it, but I don't feel I missed a thing seeing the Canterbury display instead.
Halfway thru, they had a big multi-burst that was at good as many endings I've seen. And people (including me) got up, figuring it was over, as it had been a decent event already. 3 minutes later, I finally decided to sit down again, as it was clear it wasn't yet over. At the very end, following the mad bursting of everything and anything all at once, they lit up a display on the far side of the field, and "CANTERBURY" with a flag was displayed. The crowd burst out once more, cheering all the harder.
I'll be there next year for sure... celebrating Independence Day.

I didn't go to the Canturbury display this year, but my fiance and I went to it last year... Their fireworks show is probably by far one of the best I've seen.... and it's not nearly so crowded and cumbersome to go to as Concord or Manchester.
