BarCampManchester - Saturday, July 28th!

|

I want to take a quick moment to announce that BarCampManchester is this Saturday, July 28.

The event is from 10 AM to 5 PM.

The event is located at Amoskeag Business Incubator (ABI) which is located at 33 South Commercial St. Manchester, NH (see map).

For those of you who haven't seen my previous explanations of BarCamp, I'll give a quick recap.

BarCamps are a type of ad-hoc gathering born out of the desire to freely share information about software, technology, the Internet, etc. with others. The day is broken down into sessions, and anyone can lead a session and anyone can suggest a session. Generally, at the beginning of the day participants wishing to lead a session are given a piece of paper to write down what their session is about and put on the schedule board, then anyone else who has an idea of something they'd like to hear about are given a piece of paper to write down their ideas for sessions. The session ideas get posted next to the schedule, and others can look at them and if someone knows about the subject matter, they can lead the session.

Session format is usually more of a discussion than a lecture. Participants are actively encouraged to ask questions. The job of the session leader is generally to facilitate questions, and the session leader doesn't necessarily have to be the expert on the subject.

You need not be a geek or a technical person to attend BarCamp, just have a willingness to learn.

If you're free Saturday and want to come, all we ask is register on the Registration page (hit the edit link at the top of the page, and add your name to the bottom) so we can get a head count for lunch. (I believe last I heard it was pizza).

Also, if you want to get an idea of what types of things might be discussed at BarCampManchester, take a look at the Sessions page. What's here may or may not be reflective of what's discussed the day of, but if you have an idea for a session you'd like to lead, you can post it here as well as if you have an idea for a session you'd like to see you can put it here as well.

Currently, I've got myself signed up to lead two sessions (pending interest). The first an introduction to how to set up Drupal and what it can be used for, and the second is a discussion on social networking on the Internet... the advantages and drawbacks of it, how to talk to concerned parents (or tips for concerned parents if there are any there), how to talk to teens about being safe, etc.

Hope some of you can come, I'd love to see ya!
