UNH 3, BU 3

|

Despite taking a three-goal lead early in the second period, the University of New Hampshire hockey team couldn't close the deal and had to settle for a 3-3 draw with Boston University before a sellout crowd at the Agganis Arena. With the tie, UNH retains a four-point lead in the Hockey East standings.

Trevor Smith put New Hampshire on top, banging home the loose rebound of a Brad Flaishans point blast. Coming with the man advantage, the goal was the Wildcats' 10th power-play strike in their last 13 periods.

After assisting on the first score as well, Jerry Pollastrone helped UNH expand its lead less than three minutes into the second. Slinging a blind pass to the left faceoff circle, Pollastrone found Smith for a wicked one-timer that beat Curry over his shoulder.

Then the 'Cats struck again just 1:46 later. Off a faceoff, Kevin Kapstad unloaded a bullet that was tipped by Mike Radja on its way to the net, beating Curry over the shoulder -- again -- and making it a 3-0 game with 15:17 to play in the second.

Pete MacArthur took advantage of a turnover in the offensive zone to narrow the deficit to two with 12:01 to play in the second, beating Regan between his pads from the low slot.

Kenny Roche added his 10th score of the season (fourth against UNH) with 5:01 to play in the second, trimming the Wildcat edge to 3-2. Again the puck sneaked between Regan's pads, but this one came off the rear wall, rolled to the other side of the net, and Roche was there to poke it home.

The Terrier comeback was completed with 16:08 remaining in regulation, when MacArthur fired from the left point past Regan's left skate just inside the far post. That made it 3-3.
