ALBANY, N.Y. – About 75 minutes before the puck dropped for what was probably the most important game in program history, the Rochester Institute of Technology hockey team filled a curtain-lined hallway that separated the media’s work space from its lunchroom at the Times Union Center, stretching, sprinting – and laughing.
“That’s definitely normal for our team,” explained senior goalie Jared DeMichiel. “We just want to have fun.”
Little did the Tigers realize then that their fun was just beginning.
Entering as the happy-go-lucky underdog, RIT left the East Regional as the first Atlantic Hockey League representative to ever reach the Frozen Four, swiping that semifinal spot from the University of New Hampshire with a 6-2 decision that dealt the Wildcats another tough-to-swallow exit from the NCAA Tournament.
