NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – It’s a long-held believe among hockey parishioners that a goal scored in the final minute of a period means more than merely a mark on the scoreboard. It means a feel-good intermission. It means a jumpstart to the following frame. It means momentum.
But with a major miscue coming out of the break, it can also mean nothing.
Although the University of New Hampshire hockey team evened the score with two-and-a-half ticks to play in last night’s second period, on the first shift of the third freshman Brett Kostolansky coughed up the puck in his defensive zone – and Merrimack College turned that turnover into an upset, tallying the decisive strike in its 3-2 triumph at Lawler Arena.
