Welcome to rain ... er, race day
The skies dark and descending, we've arrived at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the Sylvania 300 -- and, as of now, the Chase for the Sprint Cup is still scheduled to start here today.
It's pouring at the moment, and subsequently the activity is minimal in and around the garages that are usually buzzing on race day. The weather is expected to improve, at least slightly, by the early afternoon. Then would come the issue of drying the track, so unless it stops raining by noon or so, we can likely expect at least a little bit of a delay.
In this amateur's opinion, the rain would need to subside prior to about 3:30 p.m. to have any shot of getting at least half a race. That would leave about two hours to dry the track, and somewhere near an hour and a half to run 150 laps. Once that happens, the race becomes official. If it doesn't, they'll try to run this thing on Monday.
Stay tuned. We'll be here all day with updates. If only Al Kaprelian was alongside.
