Blame it on the rain

|

Welcome to the rain-soaked -- but spiffed up -- New Hampshire Motor Speedway, where the first day of this NASCAR weekend has already seen its schedule altered by the weather.

The Camping World Series East qualifying session originally slated for this afternoon has instead been canceled, leaving the field for tomorrow's Heluva Good 125 to be set by owner points.

Now, we're still awaiting words what exactly that means for driver points leader Austin Dillon. The grandson of Richard Childress recently left Andy Santerre Motorsports to run for his family's own team, so it's unclear whether or not he'll sit on the pole. If not, the front row will be comprised of Brian Ickler and Robert Torriere. Stay tuned for that one.

(***UPDATE: Dillon will sit on the pole tomorrow.)

As far as the rest of the day's scheduled activity, the latest weather map indicates that the rain has just about passed through the area, and officials are expecting it'll take about two hours to dry the track. If that plan holds, the slate will now feature a Whelen Modified practice, then East Series practice, then Mod qualifying.

Should Mod qualifying not be held today, it'll be done first thing tomorrow morning because there are 42 cars hoping to earn spots in the field.
