VIsion - Pt 2
My previous blog talked about vision and how companies must not only have a vision, but must stay focused on their vision. Failing to focus on the vision causes disillusionment and confusion in the workforce and leads to results that are less than desired.
At the micro level, though, we can look at our own vision and mission. I believe everyone should spend some time thinking about what their personal vision is and how it helps them find their personal mission. This is something that can be looked at regularly; I choose yearly.
Just like a company, we need to focus on our vision and stick to our mission or we will get disillusioned and confused. If we say that family is one of our values and our vision is to focus on our family life and then we don’t do it, then we aren’t staying focused on our vision and we will have results in our family life that are less than desired. Focusing on our vision and mission allow us to stay balanced in our work life, family life, social life, and personal life. If we fail to focus on our vision and mission then we will, most likely, fall out of balance in one or more of these areas.
It’s not easy to stay focused on our personal vision statement and we will probably all fall out of balance at some point. Having a personal vision statement written, that we can physically go back to and refocus allows us to get back on track without too much of a hiccup in our own lives. If we don’t have this written statement to go back to, then we will tend to list along out of balance longer.
