When to Workout
When do you like to exercise? I've tried both early morning and evening, and the evening exercise seems to work best for me. While it is nice to get a workout over with first thing in the morning, talking a walk in the evening brings down my stress level significantly. I do go to the gym around noontime, but at-home exercise happens at night.
The August issue of Prevention magazine tells of a University of South Carolina study that showed swimmers worked out harder and burned more calories when they exercised at 11 pm instead of 5 am. Since the body's temperature rises during the day, the muscles are more flexible for an evening workout.
That late is a little too late for me. However, the magazine also makes another good point-the best time to exercise is when you are least likely to skip your workout, no matter the time of day.
