What's the Key to Happiness?
What's the key to happiness? Darned if I know. However, I do know that weight loss isn't it.
All of the popular diet plans would have us believe that the key to happiness is to lose weight. I've learned a lot of lessons while changing my lifestyle this past year. Perhaps the most important is that weight loss does not equal happiness. Unfortunately, each of us will continue to face hardship and disappointment no matter what the scale says.
What life obstacles do you face? For me, it is the financial insecurity of being a writer coupled with having a rare autoimmune disease that, if left unchecked, will lead to blindness. Through the grace of God, with a lot of support from family and friends, and thanks to the exceptional talent of a doctor in Boston, I keep pushing forward with bright hopes for the future. However, losing weight isn't going to take away my troubles.
Still, by taking care of myself, I have gained the confidence and strength necessary to deal with hardships and disappointments. I am happier overall because I feel better about myself, both inside and out, and my weight will not add to my life's obstacles.
Maybe that is the key to happiness: Take care of yourself so you don't add to the obstacles that life will bring anyway.

But when I think of what brings the most happiness to me in life, I think of the people I love. My friends, family, and boyfriend make me happier than anything else. I don't think money can bring happiness. Like you mentioned, I don't think weight loss alone can bring happiness either. In the end, many things in life fade, but love and friendships will endure.
