More Obesity Hysteria

|

I just couldn't believe what I was reading. "If your friends and family get fat, chances are you will too, researchers report in a startling new study that suggests obesity is socially contagious..."

Are you kidding me? Because I'm fat that means my friends and family run the risk of getting fat, too? Oh please!

Now, to be fair, I could see how a spouse might gain weight living with an overweight spouse since both tend to eat the same foods. The study also said it was true of family members that lived far away. My first thought was, "Do you think that might have something to do with genetics?"

All of my friends are much thinner than I am, though thanks to the lifestyle changes I've made, I getting closer to them. My husband has also lost weight because I'm the primary cook in the house and changed some of our food choices. But the idea that my friend might become overweight, let alone obese, because they hang out with me is outrageous; I don't care who did the study and where it was published.

What do you think?
