Howdy, Bloggers
Hi, everyone. I would like to thank our new bloggers for adding so much over the past few weeks.
For the rest of you, please take Tracy and Bill as a challenge and inspiration. BlogsNH is only as effective and interesting as all of you make it. So please keep posting, keep commenting, and let me know if you, too, want to join in the community.
Take care -- and bundle up. It's getting cold out there.
Tracy: So here's the story.
Tracy: So here's the story. We can track hits -- it's just something that most users of the site don't have access to. We can definitely consider how to make that information more widely available.
As for the text verification, we have it because we were spammed with a lot of pornographic, obscene, etc. comments several months back. The problem is, as you say, it doesn't work 100 percent of the time. It's definitely we can also take a look at.
Thanks again. -- Clay
Posting
Hi Clay,
Thanks for the feedback, I was afraid that I was posting too often.
It would be good to have more people post. My fear is that the registration process might be discouraging people who read the blog from posting. Tracy is correct that the verification is not working every time. That often makes me give up after four or five tries. I would imagine that it would do the same to others.
I have received e-mails from some readers and friends but they do not post, so, I do not see lots of comments. This could be related to the verification code.
I agree that postings have to be more consistent by the entire community to make it interesting. How you influence that, I don't know?
I have two questions. Why is this site no longer listed on the left hand side of the Monitor on the website with Mike Prides blog and Primary Monitor Blog? Why in the print version is there no mention of the blog? There might be mention but I can not find it and I generally read it cover to cover and I look for it. A higher profile of the website by being seen in the Monitor might drive traffic to the site.
Just some thoughts. If you build awareness and curiousity it would drive people to the site and that might build frequency and get more bloggers involved.
Thanks for the encouragement!

Yes! The Print Addition Should Advertise BlogNH
Great idea Bill! I was thinking the same thing myself. As for the verification code, I now see what Clay means about spam..gadzooks! I definetlty don't want any of that nonsense attached to my blog. I just hope our web techies can find out what the glitch is when having to try so many times to get it correct. (unless it is made that way to deter spammers even more)
I was starting to think I was a smidge impaired and may have to return to Sesame Street to learn my letters all over again :) At least it isn't just me.
Well, gotta go verify this reply...I have a hot cup of tea and about fifteen minutes, let's see how many tries it takes.![]()

Thoughts on the captcha....
Thoughts on the captcha.... One, I'd have someone double check whether the version we're using of the captcha.module is the most recent... (For Drupal 4.7, it would be 4.7.x.1.2) if it isn't, have them upgrade to that module. If it is, let me know and I'll do some asking around to see if there's some sort of alternate solution. I've worked with the captcha.module quite a bit, and it seems to behave the strangest on this site for some reason... but I think the problem could probably be remedied with a little research.
And I have a recommendation
And I have a recommendation from the coworkers. ;)
This was a known bug for the captcha.module in 4.7. I've been told that reCAPTCHA works for 4.7. Or, if you want to upgrade the site to 5.2, captcha.module's 5 version was re-written to get rid of the bug.
Nicole, thanks for the info.
Nicole, thanks for the info. I'll pass it along to our tech folks.

Clay,
I am having a great time here at BlogsNH. Took a bit of a hiatus last week due to sick children and a sick me. My cold medicine induced stupor has provided me with some really great blog ideas, and I can't wait to share them.
I wanted to ask about a feature that might be motivating to our fellow bloggers. is it possible to have a "hit counter" for each blogger? Who knows how many people read our blogs and not many comment. If we could see the number of readers via a hit calculator, it may be a real motivating tool to those who decided to give up because they feel "no on cares". I'm not a computer techie, but I do have that feature on a blog space elsewhere. For every one comment I see, I have fifty some odd hits. It's inspiring!
Also, one more thing...a friend who registered to comment says she gave up because the 'image varification' gave her so much trouble it drove her crazy. What is the purpose of that dang thing anyway? For every comment I leave I have to varify at least five or six times until I get it right!!! I'm sure a lot of folks gave up too. Just my opinion, of corse.
Loving it here..hope to make the Monitor proud.
