Sox take one on chin, Yanks even season series

|

Final Yankees 13 Red Sox 5
Season series tied 4-4
Tomorrow: Chien-Ming Wang (5-2 4.82) vs. David Pauley (0-0 12.46)
7PM Yankee Stadium

Recap:
What was supposed to be a pitchers duel between two of the AL's top starters, the Yankees Mike Mussina, and the Sox Josh Beckett turned into a good old fashioned one sided blow-out in favor of the Yanks, 13-5.
A seven run second inning did in Sox starter Josh Beckett who had his worst outing of the season going only 1 1/3 innings giving up 8 runs on 7 hits. The biggest of which were a pair of three run home runs in the inning by Andy Phillips and Jason Giambi.
The win pushes the Yankees into first place in the AL East with a half game lead over Boston.

Quoteables:

" A lot of pitches had a lot of the plate,"- Sox manager Terry Francona on Beckett's outing.

"That's what happens when you don't execute pitches, there's no excuse for it,"- Sox starter Josh Beckett on his two straight poor performances.

"That's why we play this game, to see something new every day,"-Yankees starter Mike Mussina on Melky Cabrera turning a wild pitch by Josh Beckett into the first run of the game, getting home from first base

I'll be back around 4PM tomorrow with line-ups and pregame notes.-Chris
