Leaving on a jet plane...

|

I like to say I've done a fair amount of traveling in my life.  Not NEARLY as much as others, especially some here at BlogsNH, but for a (almost) 24-year-old student, I've got my fair share of flying under my belt.  Much of it has come in the last three years, too.

I'm getting ready to take off yet again.  On Saturday afternoon, I--along with 13 other students and 2 advisors--will be heading to Mississippi.  We will be spending our Spring Break helping with recovery efforts from Hurricane Katrina.

I can't really settle on an emotion that explains how I feel right now, in anticipation of going down there. We looked at some pictures to prep for going, and they tugged on my heart HARD.  I'm mostly excited, I guess. We've got a good group going, and it's going to feel amazing knowing that we will be doing something to help with our own hands.  In preparation, we got drywall and flooring certified from Home Depot, and we're ready to do pretty much anything we're asked to do.  I guess the only thing that I'm nervous about is the tornadoes that have recently gone through that area of the country... but I know there are lots of prayers being said about this trip, and we'll be fine.

Leaving on a jet plane Saturday afternoon, coming back next Friday late at night... I'm SURE you'll hear from me again upon my return!

I hope you won't be using materials from home depot, their building materials tend to be sub-par at best.

Awesome

Bri,  this is awesome.  I had the opportunity to work in Waveland, MS in January of '06 and the opportunity to organize a group that went to Biloxi this January (I didn't get to go to this one).  It's a life transforming trip.  You will come back feeling like you received far more than you gave.  I am excited to hear about your trip once you get back.

Blessings!

Mike

I don't know...

Guess I'll find out when I get there! We're working with Americorps St. Louis, so it'll be whatever they have. I do know that HD donated some gift cards so that we can get our safety gear that we'll need, instead of having to bring it down in our suitcases.

Anyway, yeah, I guess we'll see! :)

I heard...

I heard the Biloxi group talk about their trip when they get back (yep, I'm at GCC too, if I haven't told you that already), and I'm looking forward to heading to Pass Christian. I'm excited, as you said, for not only being able to give something back, but because I know that I will receive soooo much.

Amazing Cause

Hi Bri. I think it's an absolutely amazing thing that you're going to be doing, and although it's going to be hard work it will be very rewarding. My cousin went down to Louisiana last year to help with the recovery efforts, and she said it was one of the most memorable experiences of her life.

Have a great time, and definitely share when you get back!
