45 Minutes
“It took 45 minutes before we started talking about the issues” whined Barack Obama but what he meant to say is “It took 45 minutes before I could sell my message and assume the role of the ‘anointed one’”.
Give Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos an award for doing their job. These two, far from conservative journalists, finally leveled the playing field and added a sense of fair play and honesty to a process that, up until now has found the press playing favorites and giving Barack Obama a free ride.
Agenda at Any Cost
I have never experienced a poisonous political climate such as the one that exists today. Many progressives, salivating to win the White House portray all of the supposed characteristics of those people of which they show disdain, disapproval and disgust.
Progressives’ goal, boiled down is to WIN at any cost. Most of the blogs and opinion pieces that I have read suggest that a victory in November will result in progressives taking retribution on those who do not share their vision and mission. What ever happened to their principled stand on hate speech and their support of inclusion and diversity of ideas?
Never have I seen such obvious hatred in the name of ‘fairness’. Class envy, doom and gloom, get the wealthy and make them pay and government conspiracy are the cornerstones of the progressive message.
I know first hand the hatred of the Left as those enlightened souls who champion free speech have shown their true colors in threatening me to intimidate my right to express ideas. The issue….they are not the ideas they embrace, albeit they are views that were mainstream thought for many years.
There are so many Democrats whom I know that are perplexed by the choice this November. The far Left has taken their party and perverted it, taking it too far to the extreme and injecting the message with bitterness.
Their fundamental agenda is to change the economic system of capitalism and replace it with some kind of hybrid that addresses what the Far Left feels is an inherent unfairness in the system. They have an end result in mind with absolutely no idea of how to get there or the impact their actions will have on the economy as a whole.
No longer is it admirable to champion self reliance, self destiny or self determination. Progressives are working feverishly to replace that with a system in which the government decides what is fair, economically correct and how we should all be regulated and expected to think, act and speak. At the same time they use the word ‘Fascist’ to evoke an emotional response through their true believers when describing anyone who does not subscribe to their core beliefs.
U.S. News and World Report got it correct this week: "BIG Government...It's Back-no matter who wins. Americans want Uncle Sam to solve their problems." This atmosphere and sentiment is one that was germinated and cultivated by the Left and it is absolutely true that many Americans have become complacent, lazy and dependent on the government.
However, this approach is dangerous. As we listen to the Left preach their doomsday message of the government restricting our freedoms and privacy, little do they realize that in the end, that is what Big Government does best. One has to ask; is it the freedoms and privacy that the Left is really concerned about or is it the agenda?
The press is and always has been in the hip pocket of the Democratic party and the cries and whines by the Left for a ‘fairness doctrine’ is equivalent to a spoiled child who has all but one marble, throwing a tantrum until they get their way and get the last marble, by hook or by crook, into their selfish little hands.
The Clinton / Obama Debate
That brings us to the Obama / Clinton debate. It was probably the most enjoyable debate of this political season.
Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos should be given an award for what most journalists do not have the intestinal fortitude to do; ask the tough questions.
Of course, most journalists would scoff at that assessment as they are blind to their partisanship and lack of objectivity that they forget their job is to report the facts and let the readers and listeners decide.
Most journalists are shameless in their orgasmic gush of underlying support of candidates. Chris Matthews feels a tingle in his leg while others throw softball questions at Obama and Clinton. Not that FOX news is let off of the hook; they play the game the other way, albeit, their coverage is definitely more balanced.
Throughout the primary, so called ‘professional’ journalists (partisan pundits) asked pointed questions of the Republicans about religion, abortion, ties to lobbyists, past political stands that have evolved, etc. They pitted one against the other to stir up division, tempers and vitriol.
Throughout the primary, these same journalists opened the door to discussion and threw softball questions at the Democrats. Pitting one against another was not on their agenda when dealing with their party of choice and the questions asked were so far from the tone, demeanor and subject matter of those asked of Republicans it seemed like it was not a race for the same office.
Democrats purposely avoided any FOX news moderated debate out of fear of real questions of substance. Unlike Republicans, few will venture into the arena of real debate; instead hawking their negative scenarios like a preacher from the 1800’s announcing the last days of the planet!
45 Minutes and the Real Obama
Barack Obama took the stump yesterday and complained that questions of “substance” did not occur until “45 minutes” into the debate. Not true, substance was covered and Obama, unscripted, was obviously out of his comfort zone and showed his true demeanor. What he meant was that questions were not asked that would allow him to play his flute and assume the role of the “pied piper”.
I believe as do many Americans that Obama’s relationship to a domestic terrorist, bigoted reverend, slum landlord, etc. are valid points. Those relationships, past behavior and political beliefs and a full disclosure of the ‘man’ are the only things we have to review when sorting out the rhetoric from a paper thin resume.
His answers about wearing the flag pin were not what you would expect; he was honest about his feelings about this country and he holds it in contempt.
I am NOT a Hillary fan, but the far Left has hijacked the Democratic Party and have treated her like they would a Republican.
Gibson and Stephanopoulos did not open the door for Clinton but instead, for once in this election, leveled the playing field so that voters could compare these two candidates side by side, absent of gender or race. And let’s get over the accusation that if you say anything about Obama you are a racist. This charge gets leveled in letters to the editor, on blogs and even on the news. It is not about race, but it is about being fair and electing a good leader absent of discriminatory preference based on age, gender, race, sexual orientation, etc.
Unfortunately many progressives are not interested in fairness or opening the door to the facts. Instead, they are bent on trying to strategize how to fool enough of the population to seize power and institute their agenda.
Today, Obama announced that he no longer sees reason to debate and prefers to just finish out his time campaigning. Of course he does because unless he is scripted, he is an hollow soul in an empty suit preaching to the choir about intangibles like “hope” and spouting empty rhetoric like ‘yes we can’. Those who support him do so for many reasons but few really have an answer as to how he would govern, much less what he really believes.
Here are some things that we do know about the Obama’s:
1) He sat in a church for 20 years while a racist preacher ranted and raved about all of the perceived wrongs with our country. He never denounced this, spoke up about it and allowed his children (young and impressionable minds) to sit there and be abused by hate speech.
2) He has a relationship with an unrepentant domestic terrorist. On the eve of his political birth in 1995, he visited with William Ayers for his blessing. Yes, a terrorist who is responsible for the death of innocent people! Ayers is free today because of a bungled federal prosecution. If Obama did not know this then that speaks to his naiveté; if he did, it speaks to his character to associate with someone of the character of Ayers.
3) Michelle Obama has never been proud of this country until now as this is the "first time" that she has been proud in her lifetime. What about the opportunity that this country afforded her in being able to get a spectacular education?
4) Michelle Obama is disgusted at having to pay back student loans after having the opportunity to attend not one but two Ivy League institutions and her husband one.
5) Barack Obama has disdain for those who cling to ‘religion and guns’ but don’t expect him to tell those involved in that assessment what he really thinks. Instead, use those poor saps to get elected.
6) Antonin Rezco is a long time friend and neighbor of Obama and he helped him finance his home.
Rezco just was released on $8.5 million bail today. Once again a flaw in Obama’s character. You are judged by the company you keep, Barack.
7) He emulated the tactics of community organizing by Socialist/Communist Saul Alinsky and champions him as one of his heroes.
All of this while he preaches ‘change’ and ‘hope’; empty words void of actions that would suggest that he is neither of the demeanor, ability or integrity to hold the office of president.
It is amazing to watch the gullibility of seasoned journalists and several segments of the population fall into line like lemmings behind a politician who can’t take the heat of pointed questions and when questioned about events and actions that define his character.
Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos are far from conservative and most of the time are more than slightly Left of center. Their journalistic integrity and refusal to fall into line with unprincipled journalists tainted by their own belief is admirable. And, isn’t journalism supposed to be void of personal agenda and an instrument to inform people of facts?
Evidently, in the 21st century the press is Hell bent on redefining their role and soon there will be a movement to remove the word “unbiased” from the dictionary. Until then I hope we see many more “45 minute” scenarios.
We deserve to know the facts and character of any presidential candidate regardless of their ability to make great speeches and regardless of how some progressives feel about it!
Let's Make This Election Interesting
Here is novel idea. Let's put all of the candidates on a stage with Randi Rhodes, Rush Limbaugh, Thom Hartmann, Ann Coulter, Rachel Maddow and Glenn Beck. Now take the audience out of the equation and allow the pundits to get out some real questions that reveal the candidates weaknesses and allow the American people to see beyond the shroud that conceals each candidates true character.
To continue to allow rhetoric, words, inflated claims of accomplishments and perceived belief to influence a decision as important as electing the next president is a disservice to the voters and could have ramifications that all of us may regret for many years to come.
If you doubt that, remember Jimmy Carter? Look at his actions this week and ask yourselves how perverted our sense of right and wrong and our understanding of the threat to our safety and freedom has become.
Do we really want to repeat a Carter mistake? Should we allow ourselves to substitute emotion for intelligence? There is alot at stake in this election, let's hope that many more "45 minutes" replace the general lackluster and slanted debate afforded to us by the mainstream press.
It has nothing to do with that Michael!
It has to do with the fact that for once, the press treated Obama like they treat every other candidate.
It is about the slant.
It is about Obama's character.
It is about honesty.
It is about facts and truth.
And yes, it is about the flag pin. Obama does not have to wear one but his honesty about how he feels about this country is all telling. He has disdain for what we stand for and what we have done to this point.
The best thing for Democrats would be a brokered convention.
Sorry Bill
You have been officially added to the Booboisie.
Absent of the ability.......
Jan,
Absent of your unwillingness to take each point and intelligently respond, you seem to have chosen to enlist me in the ranks of the "booboisie". For those who do not have access to a dictionary see below:
Booboisie is a blend of boob and bourgeoisie. It was coined by H. L. Mencken (1880-1956), American editor and critic.
Clever choice of an insult and quite telling. The bourgeoisie is held in disdain by....Marxists.
Strange that you would use a term coined by Mencken who the Left often views with disdain.
If you ever have the desire to debate or discuss anything in this piece or any other piece I write it would be a better reflection on you than quick hit and run quips that reveal an unwillingness to allow diversity of opinion and inclusion.
And of course, I welcome it and you might find that spirited response and debate might reveal that I am not as much as a "boob" as you might think. In any event it would be more fulfilling, I imagine than quick hits and quips.
So in the spirit of your response I am officially categorizing your opinion as "gubbish"!
