UNH football pregame vs. William Mary

|

Homecoming here at UNH and the alumni are packing the place along with some sunny, warm fall weather. The student section end zone seats are already full, a skydiver with smoke coming out of hi pants (seriously) just delivered the game ball and two more just came smoking out of the sky.

UNH took the opening kickoff and went from their own 28 to the the William & Mary but Tom Manning missed a 28-yard field goal. A holding penalty on first-and-10 from the 16 derailed the Wildcats, who had efficiently moved down the field. The Tribe then went 80 yards in 10 plays for a touchdown, an 8-yard pass from Jake Archer to Chase Hill.

Defense? Defense? We talkin about defense? No, we're not, because there's not much of that going on here. The Wildcats just answered the Tribe's TD with one of their own on a 2-yard run from QB RJ Toman. Eight of the 10 plays on the drive were runs, many misdirections, one direct snap to Mike Boyle.

Toman rushed for his second TD of the day, this one from 4 yards out on the ride and decide play to convert Clements's INT into points. The UNH offense looks more efficient than it has all season. The o-line is killing the Tribe d-line and the backs are making some people miss.

The Wildcats scored their third touchdown on an rush by Mike Boyle from eight yards out, it was an option play to the left and Toman pitched nicely at the last minute. That came after Toman was intercepted in the end zone by Michael Alvarado, who unwisely tried to bring it out and got tackled at the 4. The UNH defense forced a three-and-out and the 'Cats got the ball back at the Tribe 45. The first play of the drive was a 29-yard strike from Toman to Travis Negron and the drive was just four plays long.

The Tribe went 78 yards on the opening drive of the second half, converting a fourth down and three third downs, including the 14-yard TD pass on 3-and-13, on the march.

After avery good first half the UNH defense has been trampled upon in the second half, giving up a long touchdown drive to open the half and, just moments ago, a 56-yard TD run from Tribe freshman Jonathan Grimes. Looks like it will be up to the UNH offense to outscore Bill and Mary.

A 32-yard field goal from Brian Pate gives William and Mary the lead late. The Tribe has been so much better in teh second half on both sides of the ball and have ALL the momentum. UNH has lots of wor
