Wrapping up and roaring forward

Dawn has broke on another day of racing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the Camping World Series East cars are on the track, and -- for the moment at least -- the skies are mostly bright. So long as that continues we've got a full day ahead, with the Sprint Cup Series having arrived in town, the Nationwide tour having done the same, and the East drivers set to race late this afternoon.

Biffle makes Roush deal official

One of the worst-kept secrets in motorsports was made official this morning, as Greg Biffle told the media he has indeed agreed to a three-year contract extension with Roush Fenway Racing that'll keep him in the No. 16 Fusion until 2011.

You can forget about the elephants

All you fans hoping to catch a glimpse of elephants racing down pit road before Sunday's Lenox Industrial Tools 301 are in for a bit of a disappointment.

Due to last-minute permit issues, the pre-race event has been canceled. According to the NHMS press release, officials were unaware of regulations that require pachyderm permits to allow elephants across state lines.

Today was the big day for Democrats, gathering in Unity was a crowd of enthusiastic supporters; most appearing to be a cross between back woods farmers and Ben & Jerry. Seriously though, it had to be a thrill for Granite state Dems as their nominee and heroes stood in “UNITY” to back the presumptive nominee.

Heluva day

Heluva Good Pole Day turned into one Heluva long day -- but a pretty darn good day of action at NHMS.

Late in the afternoon Canadian Patrick Carpentier became the first rookie ever to win a pole at the Magic Mile, taking advantage of a track cooled by a long rain delay and turning a blistering lap around the 1.058-mile oval. Then, a couple hours later, Eddie MacDonald spent much of the final 10 laps banging door-to-door with Trevor Bayne and ultimately surged ahead on a restart to claim victory in the Camping World Series East contest.
